I've been a bit MIA, but that just means more things to share!
I saw Palehound play with Radical Dads, Ava Luna, and Bent Shapes earlier this year, and had my mind blown. It's not too often you hear a song that rhymes "carrot" with "ferret" and still speaks to your soul. This band knows their stuff, and I can't wait to catch them next time their in town.
Deerhunter's Album Concept Map
Has anyone listened to the new Deerhunter album?? I've gotta be honest.. I haven't gotten around to it yet. But he made a really awesome concept map that's totally worth checking out. I recommend making a cup of tea, pressing play and poking around. Maybe the inspiration will rub off on you.
Petal's Music Video for "Heaven"
I don't have many words to describe this music video besides completely and utterly MAGICAL. I cant speak for her latest album, because I haven't heard it all but I can speak for this song. I have not lived a day w/o listening to this song since I first heard it a few weeks ago. One of my greatest CMJ regrets is missing Petal. I need to make that up. Here's a cool interview w/ Kiley Lotz from Petal to hold us over.
These Netflix Outtakes
Found this video while doing some research for work (Yes, I get to watch Netflix at work) and it TOTALLY made my day. How I missed this? I do not know, but I'm happy I found these outtakes.
This Audiotree Session w/ Mothers
I love Audiotree sessions! When I was younger, youtube was how I used to find my music: Pink Couch Sessions, WatchListenTell, La Bogotheque, Tiny Desk Concerts, and Audiotree (just to name a few). As I was finalizing my CMJ schedule, I came across this Audiotree session w/ Mothers and knew I had to see them. Kind of remind me of Daughters, but not as "breakable", if you catch my flow.
Deadbeat by New Orlean's Boyfriend
My musical taste tends to skew more punk, pop, indie, folky, rock.. But I like other stuff too! I swear. Just ask my friends. Here's a track someone sent me... Must've been a press release. (Sometimes those are worth sorting through!) and I dig it. She's going on tour w/ Big Freedia. Need I say more?
The Best by MA's Harmoos (also the whole fucking album)
When I first started playing shows, I played one of my firsts with Will from Harmoos and I was so fucking stoked. Our friend James, That Michael Character, covered his song "The Best, and then Will played it, and then I left the show going "where the fuck can i find that online so I can play it repeatedly?" There's just something so honest and sincere and FUCKING RELATABLE about those lyrics.
Regret #2 of CMJ.. I missed SPORTS. *smh* Fun, Pop, Recorded in your mom's garage music. What do you call this stuff nowawadys? Someone help me with words.
